hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia
[edit]Why isn't hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia here? It's the fear of long words (what sick idiot made this up) and has 36 letters. TJPowerspeed75 (talk) 17:46, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Because someone literally just made it up as a joke and it's not a real word in any actual dictionary. Reywas92Talk 18:11, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- They didn't do a very good job of making it up, either, since "hippo" is from the Greek meaning "horse" not "really large animal". There are been a dozen, maybe more, efforts to add this word to this article over the years; mostly from anon accounts. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 19:01, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, but there's a Wikipedia article already about this topic. TJPowerspeed75 (talk) 21:22, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

- It's in wiktionary - which is why we don't use that as a reference. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 23:40, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Anon account checking in. Antidisestablishmentarianism is recognized here, properly so I believe. Given this, I think the word neoantidisestablishmenarianism is a valid candidate for taking its place as the longest meaningful word in English. As a word, it follows the standard rules of English construction. As a meaningful word, it accurately describes the resurgent movement to reverse the separation of church and state, in particular in the United States. I have no dog in the fight between the neoantidisestablishmentarianists and the growing number of neodisestablishmentarianists who oppose them, but the words are there for all to see and count the letters in. Also, while we're counting letters, neoantidisestablishmentarianists has one more letter than neoantidisestablishmentarianism. Do what you will with that.
- I'll see myself out. 108.162.161.104 (talk) 18:26, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Not simply silicosis
[edit]Shouldn’t the definition of pneumo…etc etc reflect the fact that it’s specifically silicosis related to mining volcanic rock? 2601:981:4400:6F80:859B:143B:4222:C2CA (talk) 07:38, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
